Born in the remote wilds of the Carpathian Mountains in Ukraine, Slavko Komarnytsky is Associate Professor of Pharmacogenomics at the Plants for Human Health Institute, NC State University and Director of the Mobile Discovery program. He received BS in Biology from Kyiv University, Ukraine; PhD in Plant Biology from Rutgers University; and joined Food Science and Nutrition faculty at the NC State University in 2011. His special interests included biological chemistry and drug discovery in the area of metabolic, inflammatory, and infective diseases. His scholarly work set trends in biodiscovery from natural sources and engagement of students and ethnic communities in global health research. He authored over 50 major scientific publications and gained broad support from government agencies and industry sponsors.



Plants for Human Health Institute is conveniently located within the North Carolina Research Campus in Kannapolis, NC (30 miles north of the Charlotte/Douglas International Airport CLT, 70 miles south of the Piedmont Triad International Airport GSO, and 130 miles south-west of the Raleigh-Durham International Airport RDU). Kannapolis is also connected to Charlotte, Raleigh, Washington and New York by daily Carolinian/Piedmont Amtrack service KAN.
